Stof verven. Dyeing fabric.

Eindelijk heb ik dan genoeg moed verzameld om stof te verven. De verf van Trapsuutjies had ik misschien al wel drie jaar liggen, maar ik durfde de stap maar niet te zetten. Tot ik op hun website wat las over het verven met behulp van Varens en Zout en Zon. Gisteren was de eerste zonnige dag dat ik ook tijd had, dus meteen aan de gang.

Finally I gathered enougd courage to start dyeing my own fabric. I had the dye just sitting and collecting dust in my cupboard for about three years, but I just couldn't take the first step. Until I read something about dyeing with ferns, salt and sun.

Deze eerste foto's zijn de foto's terwijl de zon de patronen aan het inbranden is en het zout de verf in patronen trekt. De volgende foto's zijn de resultaten.

These first pictures are taken while the sun is burning the patterns in the fabric and the salt is pulling the dye into patterns. The next pictures are the results.

Deel drieMysterie 2012, deel vijf mysterie 2011/Part three mystery 2012, part five mystery 2011.

I almost finished some blocks of this years mystery, I still need to add the centers. I finished two flowers, I have to make a total of 16. I want to make 4 groups of flowers, all blue/pink and from two different blue fabrics, and two different pinks. The centers will become all green, or all yellow, I haven't quite decided yet. This years mystery is, like last years mystery, designed by Francoise Maarse. The star below are blocks  part 5 of last years mystery.

Ik ben bijna klaar met een aantal blokjes van de mysterie van dit jaar, ik moet nog wel alle centrale circels toevoegen. Ik heb twee bloemen af, en het moeten er in totaal 16 worden. Ik wil de bloemen in vier groepen maken, alles blauw/roze, met twee blauwe stofjes en twee roze stofjes. De centrale circels worden geel of groen, daar ben ik nog niet uit. Deze mysterie is, net als die van vorig jaar, ontworpen door Francoise Maarse.
De ster op de onderste foto bestaat uit blokjes van deel 5 van de mysterie van vorig jaar.

Ragquilt.

The ragquilt is finished, it turned out really cute. I will definitely make more of those. Fabric choice is key, though. My quality cottons didn't work so well, where as the loosly woven fabric frayed very well. So yes, the washer and dryer (two cycles each) really worked on the process. And no colorcatchcloth needed.

De ragquilt is af, hij is heel schattig geworden. Ik ga zeker nog meer ragquilts maken. De stofkeuze is erg belangrijk, mijnmooie katoentjes hielden zich mooi, maar rafelden niet, terwijl de geweven stofjes heel mooi rafelden. De truc met de wasmachine en droger heeft goed gewerkt. De quilt heeft de cyclus twee keer gedaan en toen was het resultaat naar mijn zin. En ik had geen colorcatchdoekje nodig.
